Guarding Your Privacy: “Data is the Pollution of the Information Age”

Via Inside Higher Ed:  Living in a web-based world means that almost every interaction we have leaves traceable data in its wake.  Following up on a previous post, here is another video about the web and privacy.  Web security expert Bruce Scheier outlines the challenge technology raises with respect to individual privacy.  In short:  it is hard for an individual to maintain control of his or her information because of the confusing nature of this new technology and the mountains of data it generates.  As Schneier puts it: “We’re not Google’s customers.  We think we are.  We are a product Google delivers to its customers.”  Therein lies the rub.  The full video is worth a watch.
