American Education is Better than Ever!

Kevin Drum is highlighting a recent report by the Brown Center on American Education at the Brookings Institution that has some good news for the US.  The study looked at the performance of American public school students over the past 50 years using the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and found that their performance relative to other countries has actually improved.  The bad news is that, despite popular belief, even in the 1950s, our students’ test results were mediocre.  But they are better now then they’ve ever been.

According to report author Tom Loveless:  “The United States never led the world. It was never number one and has never been close to number one on international math tests. Or on science tests, for that matter.”  Is this glass half full or half empty?
