Efficiency 2.0: Customizing Your Energy Saving
TechCrunchTV has an interview with Tom Scarmellino of Efficiency 2.0, a firm that sells web-based energy conservation services to consumers through electric utilities. Scarmellino claims that this approach can save consumers as much as 6 percent per year. He asserts that if this technology spreads nationwide, it could contribute as much to the US energy market as the entire solar energy sector.
The Efficiency 2.0 platform crunches massive amounts of data— like homeowners’ demographic information, weather forecasts and more— to tailor power-saving tips, and reward offers for consumers that will matter enough, hopefully, to persuade them to make energy-related changes around the house.
The video is a little cheesy, but worth a watch.
