The Future of the Workforce: How Public Colleges will deal with the “New Normal”

The Chronicle of Higher Education has an interesting piece on the challenges facing public and land-grant institutions these days.  A recent conference examined how these colleges should respond to the “new normal” of unending austerity.  The approaches discussed focused on the need for sacrifices and adjusted expectations on the part of the entire campus:  administrators, faculty and even students and their families.  Here is the issue in a nutshell:

“I believe we are at fork in the road right now,” said Ric Porreca, senior vice chancellor and chief financial officer of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Speaking at a session on economic transformation and public universities, he posed the question: “Are we serious about new models?”
