Big Data Becoming Big Business

From social media to manufacturing to higher education, organizations in virtually every industry are trying to take advantage of  Big Data, the accumulation of massive databases (including detailed data on consumers collected via the Web).

 Over at TechCrunch, Tim Gasper points out that the Chief Information Officers in organizations throughout the economy are projected to invest in Big Data technology to the tune of $34 billion next year (up from $4 billion in this year).  So, like its name implies, Big Data is fast becoming a big deal economically.

Gasper gives on overview of  five of the most important players in the field.
